Our biggest social so far this year was held at the then newly opened vegan café Coffee Shotter, which fronts the Nexus co-working site on Croydon High Street. Members enjoyed great talks from two speakers.

Nexus founder Mark Sarfo updated everyone on how to set up a business at Nexus co-working space; his aim is to create a community of like-minded people from the creative industries including, but not limited to, music, film, fashion, advertising, art, design, PR, copyrighting and events.

Emma Passmore from ASC (Artists Studio Company) talked about their newly opened purpose-built arts building with 104 studios. Members were excited to hear about what ASC has created over 5 years of planning with the housing developers involved, as well as news about other ASC studios in London.

Croydon’s purpose-built studios are owned by ASC and therefore have a 25-year lease, a rare thing for an arts-based building. Studios vary in size and start at around £250 per month inclusive of electricity usage, gas heating, business rates, water rates and do not have a service charge. There are also reduced rates for under 25-year-olds, supported by Croydon Council & the GLA.

Since the social, several Made in Croydon members have moved into both ASC Studios and Nexus.
